WWE 2K22 News: Release Date, Cover Revealed In Official Trailer (W/ Video)

By Mick Robson

It's hard to be surprised anymore, both in wrestling and general life with the way the internet is. The majority of the details about WWE 2K22- including the cover- leaked online a few days before WWE Games dropped it. Nevertheless, the trailer that dropped this morning is visually stunning and shows some promise for the revamped WWE 2K series. With the tagline, "It Hits Different", they had a lot to live up to.

The cover star is the legendary Rey Mysterio, as he will be the focus of the 2K Showcase Mode, which will allow players to re-live the career of the famous luchador. He features on the cover of both the standard and deluxe editions of the game. There is also an alternate "nWo 4 Life" version featuring Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash & Syxx (Sean Waltman/X-Pac).

The trailer included gameplay snippets interspersed with gamer Tim The Tatman walking around the studio, which is filled with WWE Superstars such as Alexa Bliss, Matt Riddle, Big E, Biance Belair & The Undertaker, among others. We also see Machine Gun Kelly, who is the executive producer for the 2K22 soundtrack.

WWE 2K22 will be released on March 11, 2022. It will be available on Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, as well as PC.

Thoughts: Very impressed by the way the game looks. They've nailed what a WWE production looks like, but I'm just hoping it plays just as well as it looks. The game modes are intriguing, and I know I'm going to spend hours on MyGM (previously known as GM Mode in the Smackdown vs. Raw series). We saw snippets of MyGM in the trailer and they've clearly listened to fans and put a lot of time and care into that mode. Despite how badly WWE 2K20 burnt me, and many other gamers, I'm cautiously excited for this new release.
