QWA Double Tap 3 Review (16/05/2026)

We continue on the “Mick tries to catch up on as many Aussie wrestling shows as he can” train with QWA’s Double Tap 3! They’ve also since held the Dominance event in June, and as of writing this, we’re a couple of days out from their July 18 event, Axe To Grind. But this is the latest one available on their YouTube channel, and I thought the concept was a really fun one anyway as my first proper exposure to QWA. 

QWA is based in Townsville, way up in northern Queensland. I sat down with one of their top stars- and head trainer of the QWA Academy, Trent O’Day, a couple of months ago. The chip on his shoulder about QLD wrestling not getting its due in the overall Australian wrestling scene is evident, and understandable. I watched and reviewed PWL’s The Fyre Rises, and it was an excellent show. Double Tap is a concept not unlike WWE’s old Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday shows, where fans get to vote on matches and stipulations. I’m not sure why WWE never really revisited this in the current era with social media being as big as it is, but I enjoyed them a lot- even when the shows weren’t perfect, I thought the fan interaction idea was really fun. 

Alright, without any further ado... let’s do this!

Oh, shit, it’s a cold open, no intro video, just the ring announcer. Time to lock in. 

The QWA Heavyweight Champion and the QWA Tag Team Champions, the Chaos Collective start us off. They are a stable comprised of Bojack, James Williams and Whiplash. Heard the names in passing, but you’ll have to excuse me, a lot of these wrestlers will be essentially brand new to me. Let’s learn together. 

Quality crowd with some heckles- “you stink mate!” “let’s get some real wrestlers out here!” Bojack- with the beautiful QWA Heavyweight Championship- shuts them down, then says he’s been on vacation- getting engaged, actually. Bojack’s had issues with Tim Burr and Ebony, and is a bit miffed at his boys for not handling the situation better. He introduces the new QWA commissioner, Mr. Glass. He is aligned with the heel stable seemingly, shaking hands with Bojack and James Williams... but interestingly, not Whiplash. He’s a bit hard to hear, but rips on the crowd and says it’s great to have O’Day back as head trainer. 

Former commissioner UltraLove Jet Steele comes out, and says he was relieved of his duties for “playing it too safe”. But after speaking to the Board of Directors, he and Glass will be co-commissioners! Jet says that we need a main event, and Bojack hasn’t defended the title in a while, so it’ll be a triple threat- Bojack vs. his boys, James Williams and Whiplash. Ooh, we love a bit of chaos! 

The fans voted for a No Disqualification match, and we’re getting that right now in a tag match! The tag champs are pulling double duty! 

Match 1: No DQ- Chaos Collective (James Williams & Whiplash) vs. Mo Bros (Angus Sharp & Eddie Kormac)  

The Mo Bros are from WAR Rockhampton, we are informed by our commentary team- UltraLove and QWA Hall of Famer The Ref, who was injured at the last show so not performing his usual duties. Nice to find out more about the QLD wrestling ecosystem. 

They brawl to start, with Angus throwing Williams out of the ring and bouncing his head off the commentary table. In the ring, Kormac bludgeons Whiplash. Whiplash fights back and hits a GTS. On the outside, Williams takes advantage of the rules by hitting Angus with the ring bell hammer. Chaos Collective beat down Angus and revel in the no DQ stipulation by grabbing a steel chair. Kormac disarms Williams though, allowing Angus to hit a massive uranage for a near fall. 

Mo Bros take control with steel chair shots. Williams manages to come back with some flash, hitting a cazadora into a Stunner. Angus gets a large piece of plywood- our substitute table for the evening- and smacks Whiplash and Williams in the face with it. Whiplash comes back with high knees and Chaos Collective throw Angus through the wood in the corner! 

There’s a new weapon as Williams grabs a kendo stick. Kormac cops it. A steel chair is grabbed yet again, but Williams accidentally clocks Whiplash! Double superkick by Mo Bros that misses by a mile, so they re-do it. Shatter Machine- and that’s it! 

Winners: Mo Bros (at 10:50) 

Thoughts: Shame about the screw up on the finish, but that was otherwise fun. No DQs- as evidenced by the fan vote- are always crowd pleasers. Mo Bros kinda have vibes of the Nasty Boys, while Williams and Whiplash seem quite athletic with a lot of potential. Look forward to seeing more- and I won’t have to wait since they’re in the main event tonight! 

Post-match, Whiplash shakes hands with the Mo Bros, while a furious Williams pie-faces him and says, “You had one job! To win!” They have a shoving match but Bojack comes out to separate them. Marshall Samson comes out and announces that there’s a tag title match for Dominance- Chaos Collective vs. Mo Bros vs. Dos Best Amigos- Samson and his masked partner Gwapo.  

For the next match, tarps are laid across the ring mat, and the announcer- with a sweet mohawk- warns the front row that they are in the “splash zone”. 

Match 2: Fruit Bowl Bash Match- Charlie D vs. Chris Dink 

Charlie has an apple, Chris has an orange. They trade strikes. Charlie goes for a running splash in the corner but Chris bails out of the ring. Chris gets more fruit- and puts a big banana down the throat of Charlie! Hey, this is a family show! 

Slingshot senton by Chris, banana in hand. He peels the banana and lays it down as a trap, but Charlie reverses and he slips on the banana peel! Obvious gag but still delightful. Charlie gets his own banana and uses it for the assist on a People’s Elbow! Sweet Chin Music is blocked, then Chris gets a pineapple! We’re going to have a Pineapple Incident in the QWA Warehouse! Is this the fruit equivalent of a barbed wire baseball bat? 

A pineapple and lemon combo has Charlie on the ropes. He gets the boots up and gets the pineapple himself to use for, as UltraLove terms it, “some Little Nicky action!” Chris gets a potato, but it’s not a fruit, so the referee disarms him. Charlie grabs a tomato and squeezes it in Chris’ face before hitting a sidewalk slam! Clever. Charlie grabs a bag of thumbta- no, they’re grapes! Chris takes the body slam on the vicious fruits. Watermelon up next. Charlie hits the Pedigree onto it- and that’s it! 

Winner: Charlie D (at 9:52) 

Thoughts: Just when you think you’ve seen everything in 30 years of watching wrestling, you get a man shoving a pineapple up another man’s ass. I didn’t think I would like this match, but it gradually won me over. Very novel and creative work!  

Match 3: Nova vs. Trent O’Day 

The fans voted for Nova to be O’Day’s opponent. Nova is O’Day’s protege, I believe, and they both enter to the same music. This is also Nova’s in-ring debut. 

They start with a lock-up... then a lip lock? Maybe I was mistaken, maybe she’s a little more than a protege. The Ref with a great line on comms, saying “this is a family show, not a family making show”. Then Trent gives Nova a massage... and she taps out to it! What a farce. 

Winner: Trent O’Day (at 1:20) 

Thoughts: Great, safe debut by Nova, didn’t get hurt, didn’t hurt her opponent. What a worker. 

Jokes aside, O’Day’s night is not over. UltraLove grabs a mic and says that since Trent wants to make a mockery of what the fans voted for, he can wrestle their second choice- Tim Burr. 

Match 4: Trent O’Day (w/ Nova) vs. Tim Burr (w/ Ebony Angel) 

Mr. Glass comes out to send Ebony to the back, saying that she’s a wrestler, not a manager. Although he lets Nova stay out there. 

O’Day takes advantage of the distraction with a chop block on Burr. He follows up with an arm wringer, giving him options for limbs to work on. Then an eye poke. I don’t know if Trent has a submission move for the eye, but I wouldn’t put it past him. O’Day goes for a cutter, is blocked, but transitions into his London Dungeon submission hold, targeting the arm yet again. Burr is able to power his way up and hit a backbreaker. 

Burr looks for a powerbomb but Nova saves Trent. The ref warns her, and O’Day goes back to the arm. Burr tries to fight back, but O’Day hits a low blow, undetected by the ref. Nova goes to use a steel chair on a fallen Burr, but Ebony is back out to snatch it out of her hands! She chases Nova backstage, leaving O’Day all alone. Burr makes a comeback, punctuated with a huge chokeslam- but O’Day kicks out! 

Another powerbomb attempt by Burr, but O’Day rakes the eyes. 3 cutters in a row by O’Day- but Burr kicks out! Really? O’Day is furious and decks the ref. An enraged O’Day hits a Side Effect and a draping DDT. Yet another cutter... but no ref to count the pin! O’Day calls The Ref off commentary to count, but he can’t do it with his injured arm. Seth Tylors gets in the ring and hits O’Day with the Assassin’s Mark, allowing Burr to hit the Log Splitter! Burr locks in a bow and arrow, and O’Day taps madly. The referee is having a little trouble seeing it, waiting until Trent essentially passes out, before calling for the bell! 

Winner: Tim Burr (at 14:32) 

Thoughts: Extremely strong match. O’Day tried every trick in the book, Burr showed heart and power, we had O’Day getting his comeuppance in a variety of ways before suffering ultimately for his shenanigans at the finish. Easily the best match of the show so far. 

Match 5: 2 Out Of 3 Falls- Andre Irons vs. Seth Tylors 

Roddy joins commentary, freeing up The Ref to resume referee duties! Apparently his shoulder healed during intermission.  

They trade quick holds and pin attempts to start, looking for the early 1-0 advantage. Tylors gets the first high impact offence with body slams and corner clotheslines. Basement dropkick and the crowd are behind Tylors. Irons regroups then comes back in with a hangman, followed by an impactful clothesline to take control. Brainbuster is attempted... but Tylors reverses into an inside cradle to take the first fall! Tylors 1-0. 

Irons pops up with an immediate kick to the head and starts laying the stomps in. Choking on the ropes as Irons looks to take any shortcut he can. Running splash gets Irons a near fall. Diving chop to the head gets another 2. “Shades of the Great Khali” is the call, but I don’t think Khali ever came off the second rope!  

Tylors throws Irons to the apron and almost sends him into the crowd with right hands. He brings him back in the hard way before hitting a unique 619 variant to the legs. Irons spikes himself in a wild looking bump. Slingshot neckbreaker gets Tylors a near fall! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. Irons blocks the Assassin’s Mark and locks in a sleeper. Irons then goes to the brainbuster- and gets the 3! Tied now at 1-1. 

Irons quickly goes back to the sleeper. Tylors fights his way out and hits a big back suplex! Comeback starts with short-arm clotheslines and a Pele Kick. He’s chaining together big offence now with a driver, a cannonball, and finally the Assassin’s Mark! It’s all over! 

Winner: Seth Tylors (at 13:02) 

Thoughts: The bar gets raised on this show yet again! I’ve seen Andre Irons in some smaller roles in NSW, but this was the first real time to see him showcase what he can really do. Great at antagonising the crowd, but also getting it done in the ring to a high standard. First exposure completely to Seth Tylors... and damn. He’s smooth as silk, looked awesome. If this is the top level of QWA, I’ve got a lot to look forward to in the future! 

Roddy leaves commentary, shame, I was enjoying his work, he was pretty funny. 

Ring announcer Ryan says, “My notes just say ‘invite Roddy to the ring’,” so he comes back out after about 20 seconds backstage. Ryan reads out an intro that includes “coach of the Brazilian women’s beach volleyball team”. So, obviously, a massive babyface, got it. 

Roddy issues the inaugural White Boy Challenge! Ebony Angel answers. She appears to be white, but I’m not sure about... alright, we’ll roll with it! 

Match 6: Roddy vs. Ebony Angel 

Roddy is an extremely tall man. Angus Sharp joins commentary in our continual rotation of commentators. Roddy’s height becomes a disadvantage, as he can’t counter a waistlock or hit Ebony with a clothesline! On the flip side, Ebony attempts a sunset flip and a tornado DDT, but has no luck with Roddy’s frame. 

Roddy finally makes impact with a headbutt. He misses on a big splash in the corner and Ebony hits a roll up for a near fall. Roddy straight back to dishing out a beating though. Ebony fires back with a slap, then YES! kicks that are called as “the 7 Deadly Shins”- nice- then a Shining Wizard to the back to the head! Running Meteora connects for a near fall for Ebony.  

Roddy clubs Ebony back to the mat. The size difference is just crazy here. Roddy hits a full nelson slam- but Ebony kicks out! Roddy goes for it again, and Ebony rolls him up for the 3! 

Winner: Ebony Angel (at 6:14) 

Thoughts: What an interesting match. Definitely felt like a buffer after the last couple of matches, more character driven and the size difference was at Great Khali vs. Hornswoggle levels- but it was good. A few moves looked a bit messy- but really, how could they not?! Fun stuff. Interested to see where this “White Boy Challenge” thing goes. 

As Roddy leaves, commentary let him know that Biff Malibu was trying to call him, so he exits returning the call. 

Main Event: QWA Championship- James “Sugar” Williams vs. Whiplash vs. Bojack (c) 

Williams and Bojack make their entrance first, then Mr. Glass comes out to say that Whiplash is injured and won’t be involved in this match. Whiplash limps out and protests, saying that he’s wrestled injured before, and the fans want him in the match. UltraLove takes the mic and says, “this is Double Tap 3, the fans make the matches, Whiplash is in!” 

Bojack tells Whiplash to lay down. Whiplash shoves him, and Bojack knocks him down with a right hand. Williams tries to reason with them both, but Whiplash decks his tag partner! Williams rolls up Whiplash for a 2 count, and it looks like this match is indeed happening! Will the Chaos Collective implode? 

Bojack and Williams argue on the outside, and Whiplash hits them both with a flip dive! Back in the ring, Whiplash turns Bojack inside out with a running knee, but Williams breaks up the pin. He hits Whiplash with a cazadora into a bulldog, and Bojack breaks up the pin! Whiplash puts him down with an enziguri, and the tag champs are back to battling. Bojack soon makes his presence felt by hitting a double Spear! Big gutwrench suplex sends Williams flying. Bojack turns his attention to Whiplash, who is defiant and continuing to fight back despite the injury- and the size and power disadvantage. 

Williams re-enters the fray with a Codebreaker on Bojack. Superkick by Whiplash follows, and the champ is down! Whiplash and Williams seem to come to an understanding, and hit Bojack with a double suplex! They hit some tandem moves in succession on Bojack, but Williams ruins the reunion with a Codebreaker on his partner. Whiplash fights his way back and hits a Death Valley Driver- but Bojack takes his head off with a knee! He follows up with the Bojack Bomb, then a twisting DDT- and with sudden high impact, the champ retains! 

Winner: Bojack (at 10:20) 

Thoughts: Heavy dose of drama and story as we apparently saw a faction implode, and then unleashed all the discontent in a destructive way. Lots of high impact, fast-paced stuff, as the tag team championship challengers seemed to only build on their desire for singles gold as the match went on, with Bojack conveying his anger that “his boys” wouldn’t just fall in line. A quality showcase. 

Post-match, Bojack hits Whiplash with a second Bojack Bomb and demands The Ref count another 3. Tim Burr walks out to intervene, Bojack spits in his face and runs off. This leaves Williams behind to take the Log Splitter! Bojack gets out of there as Tim Burr follows him backstage to end the show. 

Overall Thoughts 

A good first impression of QWA, and good second impression of Queensland wrestling. PWL is the more polished, well produced product, but QWA has a very passionate, invested fanbase- the fans at the Warehouse were engaged and responsive to everything the wrestlers gave. And what the wrestlers gave was a lot of hard work, and the training efforts are evident- I was most impressed with O’Day vs. Burr and the 2/3 Falls match. Irons and Tylors definitely had a show-stealing performance. 

I think more of a deal could’ve been made about the fan vote element of Double Tap- I believe the fan vote results were given on social media pre-show, maybe giving them in quick featured segments/promos on the show would’ve made the concept feel more impactful. As it was, I almost forgot the theme of the show at certain points because it just played out on screen mostly as a regular wrestling show, with the commentary occasionally making reference to it.

We also ended on a strong note with the Chaos Collective triple threat- not just from an action standpoint, but from a character/storytelling point of view as well. All 3 got across their character motivations well, and it sets up story implications for future shows- which may well have played out at the time I’m writing this, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on YouTube for the next QWA uploads, and I recommend that you do the same! 

Overall Score: 7.5/10
