AEW Grand Slam- Second Night Added, Blockbuster Matches Announced
AEW is looking to hit a home run with next week's episode of Dynamite, titled Dynamite Grand Slam. Taking place on September 22 (Sep 23 in Australia) at Arthur Ashe Stadium, it marks AEW's first show in New York City. While not completely sold out yet, it already marks a record attendance for All Elite Wrestling.
However, the stakes have been raised, as they announced on Dynamite that the Friday Rampage episode- Sep 24 (25th in Aus)- will be a special 2 hour broadcast called Rampage Grand Slam.
Huge match-ups have been booked for both nights, most notably the AEW in-ring debut of Bryan Danielson. Saying that it's not about the AEW Championship right now, he successfully goaded champion Kenny Omega into accepting his challenge for what will presumably be a non-title match, but a dream match nonetheless.
Dynamite Grand Slam
Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega
AEW Women's Championship- Britt Baker DMD (c) vs. Ruby Soho
Cody Rhodes vs. Malakai Black
FTR vs. Darby Allin & Sting
Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston vs. Suzuki-Gun (Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer)
MJF vs. Brian Pillman Jr.
Rampage's main drawing point will be the second AEW match for CM Punk, and his first TV match in over 7.5 years, as he faces Team Taz member Powerhouse Hobbs. This was set up on today's Dynamite, with Punk serving as guest commentator, only to be confronted by Taz and his son Hook, allowing Hobbs to attack Punk from behind and chokeslam him on the announcer's table.
Rampage Grand Slam
CM Punk vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
Adam Cole & The Young Bucks vs. Christian Cage & Jurassic Express
Chris Jericho & Jake Hager vs. Men Of The Year (Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky) (w/ Dan Lambert)
With Rampage Grand Slam being a two hour broadcast, it is likely more matches will be added to the card over the coming week.
Thoughts: Massive news. AEW is really hitting New York City hard with everything they have. I'm more excited for this pair of TV episodes than I have been any PPV card in quite some time. Bryan's AEW debut is huge, but to immediately give us the Bryan vs. Omega dream match? Plus CM Punk, Sting & Minoru Suzuki wrestling? Plus Adam Cole teaming with the Bucks for the first time in years? Insane. Incredible amounts of star power
